Looking for a suit with a touch of originality yet timeless appeal? Let us show you the Gawn. Named after Melbourne Demons Captain Max Gawn, who wore this exact style as his suit for the prestigious Brownlow Awards. Gawn, a frequent customer of YSG, knew we were the right people for the job to get him dressed for the occasion.
The Brownlow is known for its strict black-tie dress code. When Gawn came to us in 2022, he wanted to honour the rules of the event, whilst still choosing something that would help him stand out. With the help of our talented team, he came up with this design.
Velvet, with its plush texture and rich sheen, gives your suit an air of refinement and luxury. It’s the perfect choice for a black-tie event or your wedding. Particularly as we go into the colder months as it is very warm and holds a lot of heat.
The Gawn has an uncommon square shawl lapel design with a deep v-neck design that flatters Gawn’s shape. Sleek jet pockets that give the look a modern feel. Finished with velvet covered buttons to match the rest of the suit.
Styling Tips for a Grey Velvet Suit
Pair with a crisp white shirt
Grey looks great with a lot of colour combos, but if you’re going to a formal event white should be your go-to. As you’ve already got the texture of the velvet for contrast, you’ll want to bring attention to the suit, not your shirt. Make sure that it’s ironed as it’s very visually distracting. To look your absolute best, you should opt for a custom shirt. Find out more about custom shirting options.
Accessorize thoughtfully
don’t miss out on a matching pocket-square and a bow tie to complete the look. These final touches will complete the look. We offer a great selection of 100% silk pocket squares and bowties that make the decision simple.
What sets the Gawn apart is its ability to seamlessly blend sophistication with a colour palette that will set you apart from the rest. Whether worn for a formal affair, a stylish cocktail party, or a romantic evening out, a grey velvet suit exudes a timeless charm that never fails to impress.
