SUIT CARE

Thank you for choosing YSG Tailors, we hope you have enjoyed the experience. Now that you have received your finished garments, they come with a special set of care instructions to help you get longevity out of each piece.

1

BEFORE FIRST WEAR

Firstly, your garments are all pressed and ready to be worn straight away. However, as your garments are held within a suit bag, you may need to do a light press, ideally using a garment steamer right before your event. To prevent excess creasing, do not fold the suit bag in half and ensure your garment bag is always hung up straight, not pressed against anything else.

2

AFTER WEARING

After wearing your suit, hang it back on the YSG hanger provided to let it air out. If you have a steamer, this is an ideal way to really freshen it up, reduce odours, realign the fibres and remove any wrinkles. You could also hang it up in the bathroom while you are having a steamy shower

CLEANING FREQUENCY & INSTRUCTIONS

Suits/Blazers

Firstly, you do not need to have your suit dry cleaned after each wear, in fact you shouldn’t! The frequency of cleaning really depends on how often you are wearing the suit and in what environment. If it is an event suit, we recommend cleaning after 3-4 wears.

If you have any small marks on the suit between cleans, we recommend spot cleaning with a damp cloth and mild soap.

Extra Tip

Make sure you dab, don’t rub or you could damage the fabric.

If you wear the suit weekly for work, it is really important to be rotating it with other suits and cleaning it every 4 weeks. If however the suit doesn’t look or smell like it needs to be cleaned, you can hold off until it does. Suits need time between wears to breath, moisture soaked in the fabric can cause friction and damage over time if you wear it back-to-back every day. Speak to your YSG consultant about good options for rotation.

When you do decide to get your suit dry cleaned, please use an experienced suit dry cleaner. A quality dry cleaner understands how to properly care for a suit, and what needs to be done to ensure that it stays looking newer for longer.

If you have any small marks on the suit between cleans, we recommend spot cleaning with a damp cloth and mild soap.

Extra Tip

Ensure that you dry-clean all pieces of the suit at the same time, so that any slight colour change that happens during the cleaning process is uniformed across the suit.

Shirts

You can wash your shirt/s after each wear if you choose. To avoid any shrinking wash in cold or warm water (no more than 30°C) on a gentle cycle and hang dry. If there are marks anywhere on the shirt or sweat stains on the collar, put some stain remover straight on it.

Use a stain remover on the collar if needed. Hang dry in shade, avoid direct sunlight as this can cause shrinking from the heat (similar to the effects of a dryer).

Extra Tip

The longer you leave the shirt in your dirty clothes basket, the less likely you are for it to come out sparkling!

Chinos

Similar to suits, these don’t need to be washed every time, only when they smell or have marks can can’t be removed with spot cleaning. Turn inside out and wash with like colours in cold water. Hang dry in shade. These can also be dry cleaned.

STORING

Before storing away, make sure the suit is completely dry from sweat, spot cleaning or steaming. Ensure you use the suit hanger provided rather than a regular shirt hanger, this will keep the shoulders of the jacket in the correct shape. Put the suit back into the suit bag before putting it into the cupboard.

Extra Tip

If you want to be extra careful when storing your suit, purchase some cedar balls to store in with the suit. These will help to prevent moths.
