Getting your wedding suit sorted might feel like something you can leave until closer to the big day — but trust us, the earlier you start, the smoother (and far less stressful) the entire process becomes.

At YSG Tailors, we recommend starting 6–9 months before your wedding to allow time for choosing fabrics, designing your suit, multiple fittings, and ensuring the final product is delivered well before you walk down the aisle.

Here’s a complete breakdown of what actually happens during those months, and why the timeline matters.

6–9 Months Before the Wedding: The Design & Discovery Phase

This is where the fun begins.

At this stage, grooms are usually just starting to think about the “look” of the day. You may not have your venue finalised, but you probably have a theme, colour palette, or a general vision for the vibe.

During your first consultation at YSG Tailors, we’ll cover:

✔ Your wedding style

City glamour? Vineyard romance? Luxe black tie? Something more relaxed?

✔ Colour palette & fabric selection

This is when you choose your fabric collection — from classic navy and black through to trending creams, greens, textures, and luxury fabrics like Loro Piana.

✔ Suit style

Single-breasted or double-breasted? Peak lapel or shawl? Modern or traditional?
We help guide you based on your build, wedding theme, and personal style.

✔ Measurements

We take 20+ precise measurements to ensure the suit is built for your exact body, not a generic template.

Why this stage matters
Your suit is then placed into production — and high-quality made-to-measure pieces take time because they’re crafted individually, not mass-produced. Starting 6–9 months out guarantees peace of mind and allows for customisation without any rush.

4–5 Months Before the Wedding: First Fitting

Your suit has now arrived from the workroom and it’s time to try it on for the first time.

This stage focuses on:

  • Fine-tuning the fit around the shoulders, waist, seat, and trousers

  • Adjusting length, taper, and silhouette

  • Checking alignment with your wedding colour palette

  • Ensuring comfort and movement — you should be able to dance, hug, and breathe easily

If the bridal party or groomsmen are also wearing YSG, this is when their fittings happen too.

Why this stage matters
Alterations and refinements take time. Doing this 4–5 months out ensures everything is progressing smoothly and there’s still room for tweaks.

2–3 Months Before the Wedding: Final Fitting & Styling Your Groom Look

By this appointment, the suit is nearly complete.
Now it’s about precision and styling.

This stage usually includes:

  • Final alterations

  • Locking in trouser break

  • Accessory selection (tie, bow tie, shoes, cufflinks, pocket square)

  • Coordinating suit colours with the bride or bridal party

  • Adding personalisation such as embroidery or unique linings

Many couples say this is when the suit starts to feel real.

Why this stage matters:

Your partner’s dress is typically finalised by now — meaning we can perfectly match tones, textures, and overall aesthetic.

This is also when you choose the accessories that complete the groom’s wedding outfit.

3–4 Weeks Before the Wedding: Suit Pickup & Final Checks

Your wedding suit is now finished, tailored, and ready to wear.

We walk you through:

  • How to steam your suit safely

  • Where each button should sit

  • Pocket square folding

  • Shoe and belt matching

  • Transporting your suit for destination weddings

At this point, any final micro adjustments can be made — but everything should be immaculate.
